Band Submissions
We're always looking to expand our roster with new and exciting bands so please feel free to submit your music to us at anytime. We primarily request that you send us digital submissions and please follow these simple steps when sending us anything music related.
  1. Please send us your Myspace link, or another link where we can listen to your music directly on-line. Please don't send us files or downloads since they won't be considered. If we want to hear more music from your band, we'll be sure to ask you for some more following our initial listen. We listen to every submission and, even though it might take us a little while due to the volume of submissions we receive, someone will get back to you with some additional feedback.
  2. Send all digital submissions to “Artist and Repertoire” in the form above with the message subject listed as “Your Band Name - Submission For Consideration”
  3. Make sure you include all of your contact information such as your email, phone number, and your band's applicable links such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
  4. We want you to save your money on shipping, but if you still feel the absolute dire need to send us a full press package, we'll gladly check it out as well. Please direct all physical submission packages to our mailing address which is listed above.
  5. Please read the following section before submitting anything.

Helpful Hints For Band Submissions
Here are a couple of pointers that will benefit your submission. Please take a few minutes and read over these:
  1. Please keep in mind that we sign heavy bands that play heavy music. We sign heavy bands that play heavy music. That doesn't mean that we only sign metal bands because you don't have to be metal to be heavy. We love hearing anything that's musically innovative, however we're certainly not going to be putting out any soft rock in the near future.
  2. We don't sign bands that have a shabby presentation. You have to have a great stage presence, a half decent Myspace or website, and the ability to provide us with a decent sounding demo or recording to listen to. If you don't have all of these components in check, we're probably not going to be very excited.
  3. We sign hard working bands that are willing to become part of the Year of the Sun family and treat it as such. You have to have a strong work ethic, a solid DIY mentality, and a sense of commitment and integrity. If you like promoting other bands and lending a helping hand to others when needed, then you'll get along just fine with the rest of our roster, because that's how they'll treat you.
  4. We sign bands that tour. If your band can't tour, even modestly, then it's time to stop thinking about sending us something and time to start thinking about not being a band. Trust us, you're just letting everyone down.
  5. We don't sign bands that use auto-tune as a “vocal effect” on their recordings. This isn't cool or catchy and it's certainly not heavy in any sense of the word. Please don't bother us if this fad is a component of your sound.
  6. All of our information is listed right here on our “CONTACT” page. Please don't email us with questions regarding contact info, mailing addresses, alternate mailing addresses, cell phone numbers, personal emails, or criteria as to what you should include with your submission. All of the information you need is right here on this page.

Mission Statement

Established in 2003, Year of the Sun Records has been responsible for discovering and developing some of the best underground bands in Canada and beyond. We are the most independent record label operating inside Canada today which allows our artists to release truly honest music. Uncompromised by the limitations of government grants and review boards, this is the true pulse of Canadian music and we're humbled to be able to bring it to your doorstep.

Originally birthed as an outlet from which independent bands could voice their own visions, our goal has always been to harness, help, and highlight the bands that we believe should at least have an opportunity to reach the next level. By launching the careers of Farewell to Freeway (who have successfully gone on to sign with Victory Records) and the enigmatic What's He Building In There, Year of the Sun has continued to grow and expand in order to bring you the best music possible from the bands that you want, and need, to experience.

Through our close working relationship with independent film house Black Fawn Films and director Chad Archibald, (whose resume includes video clips for Swollen Members, Arise and Ruin, Kottonmouth Kings, and Eyes Set To Kill), Silent Q Design, and Kerosene Media we've been able to provide our entire roster with a unique visual foundation. Combined with a strong DIY work ethic, we have continued to build a much bigger stage from which to amplify from.

Most importantly, we've always acknowledged that Year of the Sun wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for the ongoing support from music fans from every scene in every province, state, country, and continent. With your help, our goal of putting out the best records we possibly can becomes stronger and more defiant with each new release. We truly thank you for your support and we're looking forward to bringing you many more great records from many more great bands.

We hear what you hear.

Website Information

Yearofthesun.com was designed, developed, and manipulated by our very own webmaster extraordinaire Brian Weed. Year of the Sun Records has had the pleasure of having Brian on board with our label since its unholy inception in 2003 and he's been responsible for the on-line representation of our company ever since. This particular incarnation of www.yearofthesun.com was conceived in the early spring of 2009 with the aim to make Year of the Sun Records more readily accessible to the on-line community.
